Personal Gravity Well

The pull of old, low-value habits, chief among them Drag Addiction, that keeps dragging individuals back even after a system no longer requires them.

A Personal Gravity Well is the set of psychological habits that keep pulling someone back toward familiar, low-value work even after the tools and systems around them have moved on. Drag Addiction is the clearest example: the process no longer needs a human doing the data entry, but the person keeps doing it anyway, because it’s comfortable, or because it feels safer than the unfamiliar work waiting above it.

Escaping the gravity well is what separates someone who adopts new tools from someone who’s actually changed how they work. It’s the difference between using AI to do the old job slightly faster and using AI to do a fundamentally different, higher-value job, the shift from operator to orchestrator.
